S-T art student Lisa Guerra entered the Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) Competition and scored two perfect scores of 60 (2-IV's). Lisa's artwork titled "Art Is Music to the Eyes" earned her a seat at State in Houston, Texas on the 15th and 16th of April. Six other students also competed in the VASE competition. Brian Carabajal scored two IV's with one perfect 60; Megan Stridde had one IV and one III; Roel Alaniz scored two III's; and Sara Schirmer, Celeste Taylor, and Lindsey Estes each scored III.
S-T artists also tried their talent at the "VISIONARIOS 2005 Youth Art Contest" presented by The South Texas Institute for the Arts. The contest was held and displayed at the Art Museum of South Texas (AMST) in Corpus Christi Texas. Lisa Guerra and Brian Carabajal won Honorable Mentions in the event and were honored at the Solomon Ortiz Convention Center on February 21st. Each received a one year AMST membership.
On Thursday March 3rd, Brian Carabajal won "Best of Show" in the Coastal Bend College High School Art Contest. Victoria Valdez won 2nd in Painting, Megan Stridde won 2nd in Sculpture, Lindsey Estes won 2nd in Collage, and Lisa Guerra took 4th in Painting. Twenty S-T artists participated, with many earning Honorable Mentions in the competition.
"I very excited and proud of my art students" said S-T art instructor Cal Garcia. "This is what teaching is all about."
