S-T ISD Trustees met Monday, August 29 to approve the budget for the upcoming school year. Action items listed on the agenda for the August 29 meeting included:
Consideration and Possible Approval of Board Policy BDD (Local). - This policy, recommended for adoption by the Texas Association of School Boards, essentially designates the superintendent as the primary contact with the school's attorney. Trustee Ysrael Salinas, reading from a prepared statement, voiced his opposition to adoption of the new policy. The item was dropped for lack of a motion.
Consideration and Possible Approval of the 2005-2006 Budget. - This item was approved after lengthy discussion regarding the establishment of a Home Economics program contained within the budget.
Consideration and Possible Adoption of an Ordinance for a Tax Rate for Fiscal Year 2006. - This item was approved.
Consideration and Possible Approval of Personnel Recomendations. - The board approved the hiring of Cheryl Renae Arnold (Intervention) and Maxie Beyer (7th & 8th grade math).
In their next meeting, Monday, September 12, 2005 at 6:00 p.m., S-TISD Trustees will consider action on 2005-06 campus goals and objectives, and approve personnel recommendations. The board will also revisit the aforementioned board policy BDD Local designating access to the school's attorney. Two additional items are added by board president Rick Olivares including "Amended Board Policy BE (Local)Board Meetings," and "Written Directive to the Superintendent of Schools" The latter appears to be related to a recent directive by the board to limit access to informational packets previously made available by written request under the Public Information Act.
