Most websites that have been around for any length of time have a "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQ) section. It seems the Signal, having turned 3 years old just prior to this posting, has also reached that point.
First, a little about the Signal:
There are no professional journalists here. The Signal is a collaborative effort by unpaid local writers who graciously volunteer their time and talents to inform and hopefully entertain fellow citizens. We do our best to maintain a professional attitude but, as any English teacher can tell you, we are strictly amateurs! We hope you enjoy the Signal despite our shortcomings and we welcome suggestions to improve our little hometown paper.
And now... just the FAQs:
I keep seeing the same old newspaper at the convenience store. When does the new issue come out?
The Signal is not a traditional newspaper. We print just one issue per month and much of the content previously appeared on our website - a practice opposite that of traditional newspapers. You can generally expect to pick up the latest issue on or shortly after the 1st of each month.
Why doesn't the Signal post photos of my child's sporting events?
The Signal does not have a designated sports writer/photographer. This is most evident in our dismal coverage of girls' sporting events (the publisher has two sons at S-T HS). This said, we welcome anyone who would like to submit game reports or photos.
Why does the Signal post some local obituaries, but not others?
The Signal relies on reports from local funeral homes and readers for information about deaths in our community. If you don't see it published in the Signal, it's because no one sent us a copy of the obituary.
I posted a comment to the Signal and it did not show up. What's up with that?
All comments posted to the Signal are moderated. In other words, nothing gets posted to the Signal without first being approved by the publisher. This may mean a delay of minutes, hours, or even days. Be patient. If your comment does not get posted to the Signal, it was either lost in transfer or deleted due to inappropriate language or content. In some cases, questionable comments are deleted "just to be on the safe side."
Where can I pick up a copy of the Signal?
The Signal is currently being distributed in Skidmore at the, Chisholm Trail Cafe, Dalia's Cafe, Kwik Pantry, Lucky Horseshoe Saloon, and Papas Market. In Beeville, you can pick up a copy at Taqueria Vallarta. For postal delivery, a one-year subscription to the Signal (12 issues) is $15.00. Send your check, money order, or I.O.U. to P.O. Box 556, Skidmore, Texas 78389.
How much does it cost to advertise in the Signal?
Have you ever seen one of those TV commercials where the guys says "We must be crazy to sell for so low"? Well, that's what it's really like here at the Signal. Our advertising doesn't even cover the cost of printing. Email the Signal at ads@skidmoresignal.com for an advertising rate sheet.
