S-THS One-Act Play Awarded

Skidmore-Tynan’s 2011 One-Act Play Epic Proportions by Larry Coen and David Crane, directed by Pam Keeton, advanced from district for the third year in a row, Saturday April 2.  The crowd pleasing performance was recognized by the judge who awarded Kyle Scotten with Best Actor, Will Stridde and Holly Thomas earned All Star Cast status, and Amber Hughlett was named Honorable Mention to the All Star Cast. 

2011 One-Act Play Cast & Crew

Area competition was held Saturday, April 9 at Gregory-Portland High School.  The cast and crew delivered another crowd pleasing performance.  The cast and crew were named alternate to regional competition.  Kyle Scotten, Will Stridde, and Holly Thomas earned All Star Cast status and Amber Hughlett was again named Honorable Mention to the All Star Cast.

This year’s cast and crew contained 17 students.  Only 1 performer and 2 crew members are seniors which is not only a testimony to the hard work of this year’s students, but a promising glimpse at next year’s production.

S-T Drama Club Previews OAP

The S-T ISD Drama Club had the audience in stitches at Thursday's One Act Play performance of Leading Ladies by Ken Ludwig. The story centered around two British actors who go to improbable lengths to swindle a not-quite-dying old lady out of her money. After learning the old lady's long lost "sons" were really "daughters" well... you can imagine where the story goes from there.

The cast in order of appearance included Lyndsi Pace as Meg Snider, Robert Brown as Duncan Wooley, Cody Coker as Leo Clark, Will Stridde as Jack Gable, Stephanie Leal as Audrey, Jessica Cochran as Florence Snider, Josh Davis as Doc Meyers, and Bobby Henshall as Butch Meyers. Participating backstage were Stage Manager Jessica Hall, Caterer Jamie Boemer, Stage Crewmember Beth Gonzales, Sound Technician Breanna Hinds, and Lighting by Kamy Kimball. Hollis Stubenthal and Travis Weaver served as alternates.

Special credit goes to Director Mrs. Pam Keeton, and "Seamstresses Extraordinaire" Mrs. Kathy Head and Mrs. Ordena Keeton. The cast and crew also thank Mrs. Head and Mrs. Keeton for the beautiful costumes, Mr. Domingo Garcia for set construction, Mrs. Holubec and the staff and faculty of S-T ISD for their support.

S-T ISD will perform the play during District OAP competition, Thursday, April 2, at Coastal Bend College.

S-T Drama Department Performs Comic Murder Mystery

The S-T Drama Department pulled in a full house Sunday, December 16th, as they presented the 2007 Skidmore-Tynan High School Fall Production, No Body to Murder. This was the second performance of the comic murder mystery by the S-T Drama Club in the last few years and we were happy to see Coleman Mengers reprise his roll as "Bernard," the not very good mime. Other notable performances included Stephanie Leal as the alleged murder victim, Robert Brown as the alleged police inspector, and Rachel Mengers and Lyndsi Pace as two flighty hotel maids.

The full cast of No Body to Murder included Miranda Bohac as Mrs. McGarragher, Cody Coker as Magee, Lyndsi Pace as Nina, Rachel Mengers as Nancy, Cody Chambers as Dirk, Will Stridde as Garth, John Arrisola as Dr. McCandlish, Adam Perez as Dr. McCracken, Travis Weaver as Dr. Carron, Liz Torres as Countess de Mir, Stephanie Leal as Billie Body, Bobby Henshall as Colonel Muckel, Robert Villafuerte as Mel Mook, Whitney Bohac as Miss Hibdon-Brown, Jamie Bomer as Miss Van Brune, Coleman Mengers as Bernard, Jessica Cochran as Cecily, Tyra Keener as Hilda the Hairdresser, and Robert Brown as Inspector Black.

Supporting the cast were Stage Manager Jessica Hall, Sound Technician Trevor Dragon, and Crew Member Beth Gonzalez. The play was directed by Ms. Pamela Keeton.

Dress Rehearsal for Murder

The S-T High School Drama Club held a public performance of its fall production "Dress Rehearsal for Murder" Sunday, December 17. The play, by Edith Weiss, was a classic "whodunnit" with notable performances by Robert Brown as the bumbling but ultimately effective Inspector Barish, Rachel Mengers as Paris Hilton...er... Riviera Fitz-Charlton, Liz Torres as the lovestruck Agnes Cook, and Coleman Mengers as Bernard, the mostly silent mime.

The cast of the play included Stephanie Schirmer as Mrs. Peabody, Cody Chambers as Mr. White, Jessica Cochran as Dr. Pilz, Whitney Bohac as Minnie, Lilly Hernandez as Mrs. Greer, Cody Coker as Mr. Butler, Tori O'Brien as Betteye, Jesse Pearce as Lenny, Stephanie Leal as Miss Wallabye, Jamie Burns as Miss Willingford, John Arrisola as Colonel Muthart, Miranda Bohac as Moxie, and Zach Petrus as Ronald Fitz-Charlton.

Alternates were Stacey Moreno and Robert Villafuerte with crew members Beth Gonzales, Jessica Hall, Tyra Keener, Emily Mengers, and Mary Jane Vega.

Funds raised from the sale of tickets to the Fall Production will go towards the purchase of new stage curtains. The students and sponsors of the S-T Drama Club thank the staff and faculty of S-T ISD, parent, family, and community for their continuing support.

S-T One Act Play 'Crocodile Smile' Advances to Area Competition

Congratulations to the S-T ISD Drama Department for advancing to Area competition with their excellent production of the comedy/drama "Crocodile Smile." S-T ISD Online reports Rob Boscamp and Brett Howard were awarded All-Star Cast, both for their second consecutive year, and Tori O'Brien received Honorable Mention. Area Competition is scheduled April 6th at Jones Auditorium at Texas A&M Kingsville. Skidmore–Tynan will perform at 3 p.m.

S-T Drama Department Presents "Crocodile Smile"

Members of the S-T Drama Department traveled to Alice Friday, March 3, to attend a One-Act Play workshop. This year's One-Act Play, "Crocodile Smile" directed by Pam Keeton, is the story of "two inspired French comedians, both popular favorites. A beautiful woman, in love with both of them, agrees to build them their ideal theatre. Then the rivalry begins: for she agrees to marry the "better actor." Each goes to extravagant extremes to prove his mettle. The remainder of the play brings the awareness that genius cannot be handed over, gift-wrapped, to another generation. The play's balance of humor and drama provide an ideal platform to showcase the talents of S-T veteran actors Brett Howard and Rob Boscamp.

Mrs. Keeton was quick to point out there were many kinks to work out in this, their first live performance. The ensemble is working on improved make-up and costumes in addition to fine tuning the script and timing of the production.

On Friday, March 10th, the Drama Club will make another practice run in the One Act Play Invitational hosted by Rockport-Fulton High School. A local performance of the play will take place in the S-T Fine Arts building, 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 23. Tickets are $2.00 for adults and $1.00 per child.

Drama Department Presents Hilarious Fall Production

The S-T ISD Drama Department, directed by instructor Pam Keeton, presented "Competition Piece" Sunday, December 11th. The production was a humorous take on High School "One Act Play" contests, and lots of fun for audience and actors/actresses alike.

Highlights included Rob Boscamp's Japanese puppetry, "Coach Grubowski" played by Elizabeth Torres, and lots of hippy weirdness by Stephanie Schirmer as "Mrs. Melloncamp."

If this piece is any indication of things to come, this year's One Act Play should be a winner!

Happy Memories Made at Annual S-T Fall Festival

The Gonzales girls seem a little unsure about the whole "horsey ride" concept.

Ask a former student of Skidmore-Tynan ISD about the annual Fall Festival and they will invariably have fond memories to share. When I was a kid (not that long ago), the festival was held in the High School and Elementary buildings. Back then the popular annual events included a country store complete with a "Wheel of Fortune" style gaming wheel (winners won a mystery bag of canned goods), and a movie room showing old-timey cartoons on actual film reels. Times have changed but the S-T Fall Festival is still a big hit thanks to the combined efforts of students, parents, faculty, and staff members who help in organizing the event.

This year's Elementary portion of the festival kicked off around 4:00 p.m. Saturday with booths, games, horse rides, and more. Lots of cute little princesses, superheroes, and skeletons enjoyed the toy-walk, fish-pond, ring toss, and other activities.

High School festivities began around 6:00 p.m. at the S-T Events Center. Members of the Bobcat Athletic Booster Club spent most of the day barbecueing chickens to be sold by the Sophomore Class. BBQ plate sales were reported in excess of $3,000. The Senior Class held its ever-popular cakewalk while the Freshman Class handled the ring and basketball-toss. As in years past, the Junior Class bingo drew the largest crowd and kept everyone up till near midnight.


Robert Brown and Josh Owen try (unsuccessfully) to keep a straight face during the drama department production of "The Paper Bag Bandit Rides Again." Mr. Brown would later be dropped on his head, which we were told was NOT part of the act.


There were lots of costumed cuties at this year's Fall Festival.

Howard, Boscamp, Earn Regional OAP Recognition

After a good run, the S-T One-Act Play "Chaim's Love Song" failed to advance beyond Regional Competition. Nevertheless, two of the lead actors earned recognition for their talents. Brett Howard was named to the All-Star Cast for his portrayal of the title character "Chaim Shotsky" and Rob Boscamp earned an Honorable Mention as "Oscar Birnbaum." Congratulations to Brett and Rob, Director Pam Keeton, Assitant Director Gwynetta Hoelscher, and the entire S-T Drama Department on a very successful production.

Oy! They Did it Again - One Act Play Advances to Regionals

Skidmore-Tynan’s One-Act Play advanced from Area and will compete at Regionals Friday, April 22, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at MacArthur High School in San Antonio. Earning All Star Cast honors in Area competition were Rob Boscamp, Brett Howard, and Katlynn Mengers. Katy Casas earned an Honorable Mention.

The success of the play even attracted the attention of playwright Marvin Chernoff who writes "I'm amazed, and delighted, that a group of young people would take on the challenge of a play like Chaim." Mr. Chernoff's full comments are here.

S-T One Act Play Advances to Area Competition

Congratulations to the cast of "Chaim's Love Song" for their winning performance in the District One-Act Play Competition. The S-T ISD Website reports "Rob Boscamp and Brett Howard earned All Star Cast recognition and Katy Casas was named Honorable Mention." An encore performance of the play will take place Monday, April 4th, in the high school band hall. The play will advance to Area competition Thursday, April 7th in Bishop. Good luck and good job S-T Drama Department!

S-T Drama Department Previews One Act Play

A young woman visits the park and is drawn into the life of an elderly Jewish man in "Chaim's Love Song," a play by Marvin Chernoff. The S-T High School Drama Department presented a public preview of the one-act play Monday to an appreciative audience of students, teachers, and parents. The play will next be presented Thursday in Three Rivers at the District Competition.

Notable performances included Brett Howard as the title character Chaim Shotsky, Katlynn Mengers as Kelly Burke, and Rob Boscamp as Oscar Birnbaum. The Signal notes that Rob has made a short but successful career of playing old codgers! Katy Casas showed impressive emotional range in her portrayal of holocaust survivor Tsawrah Shotsky. High School Drama Dept. Presents "The Last Gladiator"

The Skidmore-Tynan High School Drama Department presented an encore performance of "The Last Gladiator" Saturday afternoon. The two-act comedy, directed by Nicole Humphrey, tells the story of a cowardly peasant, Gladius (Javier Elizalde), who falls for a beautiful princess (Katlynn Mengers). As events unfold, Gladius finds himself forced into battle against the fearful gladiator Brudis (Ashton Porter). In the end, Gladius (Isn't that a woman's name?) finds his courage while the princess finds herself falling for the unlikely hero. And of course, with a little misdirection and a quick sucker-punch from the princess, the story ends "happily ever after."

S-T Fall Festival a Success Despite Uncooperative Weather

The Skidmore-Tynan Fall Festival was plagued by bad weather Saturday. The Elementary festival began at 4 p.m. Shortly afterwards, a violent storm blew through dropping approximately 3 inches of rain in a little over an hour and knocking out the electricity. "That's not right!" someone commented as the rain blew horizontally, first from the east and then from the west. A steady stream of festival goers filed hurriedly through the front door of the pavilion as hail fell during the most violent portion of the storm. Then, as suddenly as it had started, the storm abated and all was calm.

The High school portion of the festival began a 6 p.m. with raffles, a cake walk, bingo in the old gymnasium, and other activities. A high point of the evening was the presentation of two excellent plays by the High School Drama Department. "Seven Wives for Dracula" and "The Trial of Goldilocks" had the audience rolling with laughter. All of the actors and actresses are to be commended for their hard work. Standout performances included Katy Casas and Rose Cavasos as poison-happy "Sisters One and Two," Rob Boscamp as the crotchety hard-of-hearing "Judge." and Will Handy as the improbable "Baby Bear."
