A Regular Meeting of the Board of Trustees of Skidmore-Tynan ISD was held July 24, 2006 at 6:00 p.m. in the S-T ISD Board Room.
Superintendent Dr. Brett Belmarez reported on the deteriorating state of the foundation of the old High School Gym. Due to rotted support structures beneath the northeast portion of the gymnasium, Dr. Belmarez has chosen to declare the entire gymnasium off limits to students pending repair of the damage. Dr. Belmarez further reported changes in TASB windstorm insurance coverage, continued progress on facilities improvements, and news of an Attorney General's Office ongoing investigation into alleged voting improprieties during the last school board election.
S-T ISD Business Manager Carole Estes reported the District had received a Superior Achievement rating for the 4th consecutive year. Dr. Belmarez noted that Mrs. Estes' positive assessment of the report was an understatement and that she was to be commended for her excellent work on behalf of the District.
Action items addressed in the meeting included:
Consideration and Possible Approval of TASB Delegate for the 2006 TASA/TASB Annual Convention. Trustees designated Daniel Gonzales as the TASB Convention delegate with Rick Olivares as alternate.
Consideration and Possible Action to Renew Administrators Contracts. (Mr. Keith Petrus) This item was tabled by a 6-1 vote with Keith Petrus dissenting.
Consideration and Possible Action on Manner in Which Closed Session Meetings are Recorded. (Mr. Keith Petrus) A proposal to tape record closed-session meetings as allowed by board policy failed by a 5-2 vote with Keith Petrus and Ken Haggard dissenting.
Consideration and Possible Approval to Pay Bill for Legal Services. This item was approved.
Consideration and Possible Approval of Personnel Recommendation(s). Trustees approved the hiring of Junior High Principal Emilia Dominguez, formerly employed by Beeville ISD.
