STAAARS DAY
(Skidmore-Tynan Athletics, Ag, Academics Reward Spree)
Due to the H1N1 flu scare, many events at Skidmore-Tynan High School and across the state have either been canceled and/or rescheduled. The S-T Athletic Banquet, originally scheduled for May 4, was right in the middle of the H1N1 flu scare, so it was canceled. The FFA Banquet was also canceled before the state decided that the flu was not as dangerous as previously thought.
In an effort to be fair with all awards and acknowledgements, Skidmore-Tynan High School has decided to combine all awards, banquets, and TAKS reward afternoon into one day-long fun event on Friday, May 22, 2009. Skidmore-Tynan High School invites the parents of all Skidmore-Tynan High School students to join with us for any part or all of the morning awards activities and lunch.
Award Presentation Schedule for Friday, May 22, 2009
9:30 – 10:00- Ag Awards
10:00 – 10:30 Athletic Awards
10:30 – 10:45 Break
10:45 – 11:30 Academic Awards

S-T High School Championship Photos Preserved for Posterity
Bi-District basketball Champs with a win-loss record of 25-6. Back Row: Gerald Holubec, Pablo Vela, Ysmael ViaFranco, Walter Jimenez, Felix Fojtik, and Garland Beyer. Front Row: David Hurst, Rudy Salinas, Dickie Hardin, Arturo Lara, and Sam Stewart. Not pictured: Henry Salinas and coach Wayne Dubose.
The photos were salvaged from the old gymnasium and placed on display at Saturday's All-School Reunion at the Tynan Recreation Hall. It appears the photos may have been removed from the high school hallways by former administrators during routine painting & maintenance and were simply never replaced.
Whatever the reason for their disappearance, we are certainly happy the photos are being preserved in recognition of the accomplishments of Skidmore-Tynan alumni. Click here to view the full collection of UIL Championship photos at Shutterfly.com. Special thanks to S-T ISD alumnus Richard Bryan of Kenedy who assisted in the duplicate photography of the photos.

Support S-T Athletics by Joining the Booster Club
Many parents have great ideas and suggestions for events such as the banquet, but never make an attempt to voice their opinion. Well... your chance to speak up is coming around soon enough. The Athletic Booster Club is once again gearing up for a new and hopefully successful 2007-2008 school year. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, EVERYBODY has a chance to join the booster club and help us plan for the upcoming school year. Participation is necessary for the events sponsored by the booster club. The success of the events, in turn, provides items necessarry for our student athletes.
Meetings are the first Monday of every month in the annex between the old gym and the weight room. Meeting time is 7:00 p.m. and meetings seldom last more than one hour. Take time to show your athlete some support and come to the next meeting, Monday, June 4th. Hope to see many of you there! - Homer Solis, Booster Club President

Outstanding Athletes Recognized at Annual S-T Sports Banquet
Bobcat and Ladycat of the Year, Ben and Emily Mengers.
Senior Ben Mengers, son of Thomas & Mary Mengers, and senior Emily Mengers; daughter of Tryne & Senecia Mengers, were named Bobcat and Ladycat of the Year respectively. Senior Scott Hale was recognized with the "Fighting Heart" award. "There were many deserving recipients for these awards among the seniors," said Athletics Director Adam Arroyo, "but when it came down to hard work, dedication, never missing a practice, and always being there for the team, the choice was clear."
Current Booster Club President Tryne Mengers welcomed parents and faculty to the banquet, featuring a hearty meal of brisket, sausage, and chicken catered by Anthony's Barbecue of Beeville. S-T ISD Senior Lee Jaurez led the assembly in a pre-meal prayer. Following the presentation of awards, Coach Arroyo offered special recognition to the outgoing senior class. Thanks also to Nancy Weaver who put together the sports highlights photo presentation.

Sportsmanship Main Theme at Athletic Social
S-T ISD Athletic Director Adam Arroyo addresses the audience at Thursday's Athletic Kickoff Social.
Athletic Director Adam Arroyo urged parents to be on their best behavior at Bobcat and Ladycat sports events, citing statements by league umpires and referees that Skidmore-Tynan had developed a bad reputation among UIL officials. Coach Arroyo further encouraged parents to avoid making negative statements towards the coaching staff in front of student athletes. "We are here for the kids," stated Coach Arroyo. "We are doing everything in our power to win and do what is right for the kids." Coach Arroyo suggested that parents with questions or concerns arrange to meet with the coach on the day after the game.
The Signal encourages Bobcat fans to throw their support behind our excellent coaching staff so that we may enjoy another great season of Bobcat and Ladycat sports - win or lose!
