Hitchcock Defeats Skidmore-Tynan Ending Ladycat Playoff Run

The Skidmore-Tynan Ladycat basketball team travelled to Port Lavaca Tuesday, February 24, to face off against the Hitchcock Lady Dawgs in the Regional Quarterfinal playoffs. The Ladycats played hard in a game that was decided in the final seconds. More to come...

Ladycats Fall to Poth in Area Playoffs

The Ladycats winning season came to a close Friday, February 17, as the Poth "Pirettes" emerged victorious in the Area Playoffs. Our Ladycats made us proud - fighting to the end against a formidable "2nd ranked in State" opponent. Sure, there were a few questionable calls by the referees, but in the end the Ladycats simply fell to a worthy opponent. The Ladycats ended the season with an impressive 23 and 11 record. Good luck to Poth in their quest for another State title.

Area Playoff Game Moved to Poth

UPDATE: The Ladycats' Area Playoff game against Poth has been moved to Friday, February 16, at 7:00 p.m. in Poth (not Cuero as previously reported).

Ladycats Take Bi-District Title!

The Skidmore-Tynan Ladycats defeated Bishop 76-59 Tuesday, February 13, to take the Bi-District basketball title. Emily Mengers led the team with 25 points and 11 rebounds, followed by Rachel Mengers with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Also adding points to the board were Alexis Schmidt with 10, Ashley Scott 9, Devon Wilder 7, Alex Gonzales 5, Courtney Vandever 3, and Kathy Mireles 1. The win brings the Ladycats' record to 23 and 10 for the season.

The Ladycats now advance to Area competition against Poth. The game is scheduled Friday, February 16, at 7:00 p.m. in Poth. Click here to view Bi-District game photos.

Ladycats Face Bishop in Round One of Basketball Playoffs

Football Season Ends with Heartbreaking Loss to Taft

It's official. Taft defeated the Bobcats 10-0, taking Skidmore-Tynan's spot in the playoffs. The Cats fought hard right up to the last moments of the game and deserve congratulations for an exciting season... too depressed to write anything more at the moment.

Panthers End Bobcat Playoff Run

It turns out, as in nature, Panthers are just plain BIGGER than Bobcats. If Saturday's regional playoff game had been decided by size of character or size of heart, there might have been a different outcome. Unfortunately football is as much a game of brawn as it is brains, and at some point, sheer desire to win gives way to physical reality. That reality reared its ugly head Saturday afternoon in Seguin as the Skidmore-Tynan Bobcats fell 28-9 to their much larger Blanco opponents.

To their credit, our boys put up a valiant fight and gave Bobcat fans an exciting game to remember. Hope was kept alive well into the 4th quarter of play as the Bobcats trailed just 14-9 with 9 minutes left on the board. Two additional Panther TDs put the game firmly out of reach in the final minutes of the game. The Signal congratulates the Bobcats on a great season and an exciting finish.

Bobcats to Face Blanco Panthers in Seguin

It's official. The Bobcats will next face off against the Blanco Panthers, 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 26, 2005 in Seguin, Texas.

S-T Superintendent Dr. Brett Belmarez informs the Signal there will be no pre-sale tickets offered for this game. Tickets, $5 adults and $4 students, will be purchased at the gate. As in previous playoff games, bus rides to the game will be available to the communtiy for a small fee. Players will be treated to a pre-game breakfast at the school, the details of which are still being worked out. Go Bobcats!

Bobcats Beat Ganado - Advance in Playoffs

The Bobcats got off to another slow start in Saturday's Area playoff game versus the Ganado Indians. Ganado was the first to put points on the board with a long drive in the 1st quarter. After a short unsuccessful drive of their own, the Bobcats finally started to turn things around with Josh Owen's interception and 18 yard run with just 50 seconds left in the 1st quarter.

Quarterback Jordan Haws hit Owen for a 41 yard reception at the top of the 2nd quarter as the Bobcats began to pick up steam. With 9:28 in the 2nd quarter, Haws' pass to Garrett Gonzales put the bocats on the board. The Cats received a lucky break when a "roughing the kicker" penalty gave them a second chance after a missed extra point kick. Josh Owen made the most of the opportunity with a successfull 2 point conversion to put the cats in the lead 8-7.

Ganado answered with another touchdown of their own but failed in their attempt at a 2 point conversion.

With 4 minutes left in the 2nd quarter, the Bobcats fumbled the ball and immediately got it back when Jeremy Johnson intercepted a Ganado pass. The Bocats continued to gather momentum as Trey Dodson made a spectacular catch on a Haws pass for a 40 yard gain. With less than a minute remaining in the 2nd quarter, Jordan Haws powered the ball into the end zone on a quarterback keeper, bringing the score to 14-13 at halftime.

The Bobcats shut out the Indians in the 2nd half of the ballgame. Josh Owen added another 6 points in the 3rd quarter with an "extra effort" run up the middle from inside the 10 yard line. Adam Aguilar's extra point kick took the score to 21-13 in favor of the Cats.

QB Jordan Haws found Garret Gonzales wide open in the end zone in the 4th quarter. With the extra point kick, the Bobcats took a commanding 28-13 lead. One of the more exciting touchdowns of the evening, Josh Owen's 4th quarter interception and subsequent 64 yard run into the end zone, was called back on a "blocking below the waist" penalty. Final score Bobcats 28 - Ganado 13.

Victoria Advocate Previews Saturday's Big Game

The Bobcats will face off against the Ganado Indians Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in Victoria's Memorial Stadium. The Victoria Advocate previews the game in their story Indians, Bobcats to get early series preview - Ganado, Skidmore-Tynan to meet in Class 2A area playoff at Memorial Stadium. Santa Rosa Playoff Game Prompts S-T ISD Early Release

S-T ISD superintendent Dr. Brett Belmarez informs the Signal that students will be released at 12:30 p.m. Friday to allow for the 4 hour trip to the Santa Rosa playoff game. The schools previously scheduled Veterans Day ceremony has been moved to 10:00 a.m. Dr. Belmarez also reminds everyone that Friday's pep rally is open to the community and will be held from 12:00 - 12:30 p.m. in the Events Center gymnasium. Student and community buses will depart the school at 2:15 p.m. Anyone wishing to take advantage of the community bus may purchase a "ticket to ride" for $2.00 at the High School office.

Bobcats Fall to Yorktown in Area Playoff

The Bobcat football season came to an end Friday as Yorktown proved to be more than worthy opponents. The Wildcats effectively shut down the Bobcat running game and seriously hampered QB Blake Stautzenberger's attempts to take the game to the air. Yorktown's speedy defensive backfield looked like shadows on Bobcat receivers - allowing only 5 completions on 21 passing attempts and racking up 3 interceptions.

After a scoreless 1st quarter, the Wildcats were first to put points on the board with a touchdown and extra point. The Bobcats received a lucky break when a Yorktown interception and resulting touchdown was called back due to an illegal block. The Wildcats settled for a field goal, bringing the score to 10-0. In the closing seconds of the first half, Stautzenberg connected with a "hail mary" to Garrett Gonzales putting the the ball inside Yorktown's 20 yard line and firing up the Bobcat fans. With just 21 seconds left in the half, Stautzenber connected again with a short pass to Josh Manthei for the touchdown. Kicker Adam Aguilar came through with the extra point and Bobcat spectators breathed a sigh of relief as they entered halftime with the score a respectable 10-7.

The Bobcats received another lucky break early in the 3rd quarter when a Wildcat lineman barreled into the punter. The resulting "roughing the kicker" penalty gave the Bobcats a first down. Unfortunately, Yorktown stopped the Cats' momentum a few plays later by stripping the ball away. Yorktown continued to move the ball against the Bobcats, scoring another 6 points on a touchdown and missed field goal attempt.

Things were looking bleak in the 4th quarter as a third Wildcat touchdown brought the score to 22-7. Undaunted, the Bobcats continued to put a up a valiant fight. Henry Herzog made a diving grab into the endzone to kill a Bobcat punt on the Yorktown 1 yard line and the Cats repeatedly forced Yorktown to punt from deep within their own territory. Refusing to give up, the Bobcats turned to their passing game in hopes of making something happen. But the Wildcats' smothering pass defense proved too difficult to penetrate and as the final seconds of the game ticked away the score remained Yorktown 22 - Skidmore-Tynan 7.

Bobcats 15 - Longhorns 12

Big plays made all the difference as the Hebbronville Longhorns and Skidmore-Tynan Bobcats faced off in Fridays first post-season playoff game. Hebbronville was first to put points on the board with a touchdown and failed extra point attempt. The Bobcats quickly answered with a Josh Manthei run into the end zone followed by Adam Aguilar’s extra point kick. The Bobcats continued to lead 7-6 through the third quarter in what would be a tight defensive battle. Prospects were looking good for the Bobcats in the fourth quarter after a 15 yard penalty pushed the Longhorns well back into their own territory. But the Longhorn quarterback pulled off a 75 yard touchdown pass that put the Longhorns ahead 12-7 with just a little over five minutes left in the ball game. Not to be outdone, the Bobcats answered with a 60 yard drive capped off by a Blake Stautzenberger touchdown and 2 point conversion. With just two minutes left on the scoreboard, the Bobcat defensive squad held on to the lead and the Bi-District Win. The Bobcats will face off with Yorktown in area playoffs at 7:30 pm Friday, November 19, again at Beeville’s Veterans Memorial Stadium. Go Bobcats!

Beeville Hosts S-T vs. Hebbronville Football Playoff

The Bobcats will go up against District 32 champs, the Hebbronville Longhorns, at 8pm Friday in Beeville's Veterans Memorial Stadium. The Longhorns went 5-0 in District play with an overall record of 7 & 2. The Longhorns and Bobcats faced two common opponents during the regular season. The Longhorns lost to Odem 20-14 who the Bobcats narrowly defeated 22-21 in overtime. Both teams defeated Freer although the Longhorns 31-8 win was a bit more impressive than the Bobcat 14-6 score. The Bobcats ended the season with a 5-1 District record and 7-3 overall. Presale tickets for Friday's big game are available at the S-T High School office. Tickets are $1 for students and adults $4.
