Steer Roping Raises Funds for Skidmore-Tynan FFA
FFA members Jose Lopez and Joshua Petrus manned the chute.
Local FFA students, under the guidance of instructor Domingo Garcia, learned the ins and outs of the rodeo business Saturday as they helped manage the S-T FFA Steer Roping fund raiser. The event was held at the Bee County Coliseum Arena and drew ropers from miles around. Proceeds from the roping will benefit the S-T "Supervised Agricultural Experience Program."

Soggy Fun at Bobcat Little League Tryouts
Trayce Howard races to cover a pop fly
Light rain falling Saturday morning failed to put a damper on Bobcat Little League Player Tryouts. League officials and managers graded each player on bunting, batting, fielding, and throwing. The statistics gathered will be used to determine placement on Minor, Major, and Junior League Baseball and Softball teams.
Players will be drafted first to the Major League level, managed by Ed Wilson, with the remaining players drafted between two Minor League teams managed by Toby Salinas and a second yet to be named Minor manager. No draft will be necessary at the Junior level as there are only enough players signed up for one team.
Since player turnout was light at Sunday's second day of tryouts, Player Agent Wanda Wilson scheduled a third tryout date for 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 26, for Minor and Major girls and boys only. Player drafts will follow Sunday, February 27, at The Rock Church.
Sonny Hernandez prepares to lay down a picture-perfect bunt.

In Memory of Brett Michael Huser
Friends and family of Brett Michael Huser collect trash from a section of Rogers Ranch Road in San Antonio.
On February 6th, 2004, Brett Michael Huser and another young man, Jon Luke Brooks, were killed on Loop 1604 in San Antonio when the vehicle they were riding in crossed the median and struck an oncoming pickup truck. Exactly one year later, on Sunday February 6th, 2005, friends and family joined together again to honor Brett and Jon’s memory by clearing trash from a section of Rogers Ranch Road near the site of the fatal accident. With the support of Brett's former employer, Starbucks, clean-up participants raised approximately $1,000 for the Asian tsunami relief effort.
Brett's mother, Desiree Huser, writes "We are going to try and adopt the same highway for another year. We plan to schedule highway cleanups every three months and are really excited about doing this for another year. It will give us all an opportunity to continue to keep Brett's memories alive while doing something nice for others. The money that we raise doing these clean-ups goes to different charities. We were able to send two children to summer camp through the Y.M.C.A., helped raise money to build a playground for abused children, and raised funds for three benches at our son Ty's elementry school playground. We hope this next year will be a continued success."
A Channel 12 news crew interviewed Mrs. Huser during the clean-up. In the year since Brett's passing, there have been many deaths on Loop 1604 under similar circumstances where a car has crossed the grass median into oncoming traffic. In fact, 37 year-old Jose Gutierrez was killed on the very day of the cleanup on the section of highway that has become known as the "Deathloop."

The Sky is Falling
As evidence continues to mount, anyone who doubts the reality of global warming should read the Guardian Limited article "How we put the heat on nature." Particularly interesting is its comparison of the global warming controversy to past controversy over the dangers of smoking where corporate and media interests conspired to deny what scientists and health officials knew to be the truth.
