Patrova-Schmidt Place at Regionals
Congratulations to Chris Patrova and Alexis Schmidt who placed 1st in District Mixed Doubles tennis and went on to place 4th in Regional competition April 24-26 in San Marcos, Texas. S-T Open Reunion an Opportunity to Catch Up with Old Friends
"With the great success we had with the 2005 reunion, plans will remain about the same," said reunion co-organizer Robert Sugarek. There will be no written invitations. News of the reunion will passed by word of mouth, email, and press releases to local newspapers. There will be no reserved seating and guests are encouraged to come early and stay late. Don't forget to bring along photos, albums, and memorabilia for early display. Each family is asked to bring two covered dishes (meats, salads, vegetables, or dessert) plus serving utensils. Paper plates, cups, silverware, tea, and coffee will be furnished. Beer, sodas, and water will be available for purchase from the Tynan Hall.
Volunteers will be needed to help with serving, hosting, and activities. Contact David Flores at 361-664-8046 for an early morning golf game. Anyone interested in card games, dominos, horse shoes, or volleyball may gather a group to organize the activity.
Doors will open at 3:00 p.m. Food will be served from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with music by the Galloway Brothers at 8:00 p.m. The hall will close at 12:00 p.m. A $5 donation is asked of singles – $10 for couples. Reward for Lost Pit Bull Puppy
Also missing from the area is a black & brown speckled Dachshund (Bruiser) and a Shepherd/Cow Dog mix with brown eye spots (Shelby). The Dachshund appears to have disappeared at the same time as the Pit Bull puppy. The Shepherd mix has been missing since Tuesday, April 10th.

Trustees Approve Salary Increase, Campus Repairs and Upgrades
Speaking in the public forum portion of the meeting were Arnulfo Gonzales and Sid Arismendez. Mr. Gonzales presented a petition to the Board expressing concerns about the school dress code regarding long hair and the wearing of earrings by male students. Mr. Arismendez asked that he be allowed to bring a past grievance before the Board.
TASB Salary Study Consultant Mr. Charlie Nitschmann gave a brief presentation reviewing compensation plan scenarios for 2007-08.
Superintendent Dr. Brett Belmarez reported that plans were well underway for the June 1st Commencement Ceremony and that a speaker had been tentatively selected.
Action items addressed in the meeting included:
Consideration and Possible Action to Approve Reimbursement for Legal Retainer Expenses to Mr. Rick Olivares for Representation at Bee County Grand Jury (Mr. Rick Olivares). This item was approved by a 3-2 vote with Keith Petrus and Ken Haggard dissenting.
Consideration and Possible Approval of Employment Contracts for Teachers, Counselors, Nurse, Librarian and Diagnostician. This item was approved unanimously.
Consideration and Possible Approval of the Recommended Compensation Plan for the 2007-08 School Year. Per administrative and TASB recommendation, Trustees unanimously approved a 4% teacher salary increase.
Consideration and Possible Approval of Proposal for Repairs to the Old Gymnasium. Trustees learned that the estimate for proposed repairs to the old gymnasium came in significantly under budget. This item was approved unanimously.
Consideration and Possible Approval of Expenditure(s) for the Football Stadium Renovation Project. This item involved the renovation and expansion of Bobcat Stadium in preparation for the fall football season. The proposed plan includes the expansion of both Home and Visitor-side seating and the addition of several walkways to the Home side bleachers. The proposal was approved unanimously.
Consideration and Possible Approval of Personnel Recommendation(s) Trustees approved the hiring of the following new employees:
Jesse House, formerly of Bloomington ISD, High School Coach and Social Studies
Karen House, formerly of Bloomington ISD, High School English and Speech
Carmen Speis, formerly of Woodsboro ISD, Junior High History and Science
John Matus, formerly of Pettus ISD, Junior High Special Education
Leah White, formerly of Mathis ISD, Junior High English.
The next meeting of the S-T ISD Board of Trustees is scheduled Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at 6:00 p.m.

Patrova-Schmidt Take 1st in District Tennis Meet
The Skidmore-Tynan Varsity and Junior Varsity tennis squads competed in the District Meet Tuesday, April 10th, at Beeville's Coastal Bend College courts.
Skidmore-Tynan had the Mixed Doubles Division pretty well wrapped up. Placing 1st in Varsity Mixed Doubles were Chris Patrova & Alexis Schmidt who defeated Zach Petrus & Meghan Bloemer in the championship game. Cody Chambers & Robert Brown placed 4th in Varsity Boys Doubles and Ty White placed 4th in Varsity Boys Singles. Also competing on the Varsity squad were Reed Berry, Allison Porter, and Devon Wilder.
In the Junior Varsity division, Kathy Mireles placed 3rd in Girls Singles, and Joe Rey Gonzales teamed up with Carisa Whitehurst to place 3rd in Mixed Doubles. Representing the S-T Junior Varsity in Girls Doubles were Whitney Bohac & Jessica Cochran, and Sagan Gabbert & Blair Boatright; Boys Doubles, Lloyd Glew & John Arrisola, and Jeff Burris & Robbie Ramirez; and Boys singles, Dual Herzog and Cody Coker.

Jerri Kraft Whitcher Graveside Service
Mrs. Whitcher was born Nov 23, 1942 to Lola Marie Priour and William A. Kraft in Beeville, Texas. She was a real estate secretary in Houston, Texas for a number of years before retiring in 1988.
Mrs. Whitcher was preceded in death by her parents; a brother William A. Kraft Jr. and a son James B. Miller. Survivors include her husband Robert Whitcher, three sons, Charles Miller Jr. of Austin, Texas, Leslie Miller of Houston, Texas, and Benjamin Miller of Hempstead, Texas, step mother Gloria Kraft of Lexington, Missouri and Mikeal Kraft of Richmond, Missouri and Kevin Kraft of Lexington, Missouri, 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Skidmore Water Supply Corp. Elects New Board of Directors
Immediately following the election, the Board convened a special meeting to select corporate officers. Keith Petrus was named President, Santana Lopez - Vice President, and Henrietta Brundrett - Secretary/Treasurer. The Board will hold its next regular meeting April 9th, at 6:00 pm in the SWSC office.
In Memoriam: Annette Griffith
Mrs. Griffith was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, and her husband, Charles Hobbs "Rusty" Griffith.
She is survived by three daughters, Ann Griffith-Ash, Carol Griffith, and Jane Griffith-Partlow; grandchildren Sara Griffith Ash, Beth Houser-Cole, Becky Houser-Canavan, Matt Griffith Petrus, William Robertson Petrus, Molly Petrus-Thomas, Jenny Partlow-Price, Thomas Ross Partlow, and Abbie Partlow-Mayo; and 14 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Griffith was laid to rest in the family cemetery on the Griffith Ranch near Papalote.
