Annual Turkey Shoot

The Skidmore-Tynan Lions club is hosting their annual Turkey Shoot today in Skidmore.  Head out Corrigan Road and follow the signs to participate in the shoot and enter the shotgun raffle starting at 9:00am.  Shots are $2 each with 10 shots per round.  A drawing for the shotgun raffle will be held at 5:00pm today.

Future S-T Athletes Shine in Annual Punt, Pass & Kick Contest

The 19th Annual Skidmore-Tynan Lions Club Punt, Pass, and Kick competition saw a record turnout this year thanks to the help of the S-T ISD Elementary and Junior High faculty and staff who helped spread the word about the annual competition. Thirty eight children competed for the opportunity to advance to District competition in Angleton, Texas on October 24, 2009. Results follow:

7 Year Olds: 1st Caleb Vickery, 2nd Logan Schanen, 3rd Cain Moya, 4th Jeremiah Fuentes, 5th Drayden Koenig, 6th Brandon Aguilar. Participants: Mathieu Mortensen, Avea Gonzales, Declan McCarn, Danielle Leafty, Klayton Alvarado.

Lions Announce Annual Punt Pass & Kick Competition

The Skidmore-Tynan Lions Club announces its upcoming Punt Pass & Kick competition, Saturday, September 19th at 10:00 a.m. The annual event is open to boys and girls who turned 7 to 12 years old on or before June 30, 2009. Contestants in each age division will compete for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies to be awarded at a home football game. All children will receive a participation ribbon on the day of the competition and 1st place entrants are eligible to advance to District Competition.

Registration forms will be sent home with Elementary and Junior High students. You may also register on the day of the competition.

The Skidmore-Tynan Lions Club hosted its 18th annual Punt Pass & Kick competition Saturday, September 20th at Bobcat Stadium. The weather for the event could not have been more cooperative as children, parents, coaches, and Lions Club members spent an enjoyable Saturday morning punting, passing, and kicking around the ol' pigskin.

In the 7 year old division, 1st place went to Marcus Hinojosa, 2nd to Cole Terry, 3rd to Daniel Tyrone, and 4th to Branden Boales. Also participating were Peyton Schmidt, Alyssa Arroyo, and Melanie Wolf. In the 8 year-old division, L.C. Hennig took 1st place and Vanessa Vega came in 2nd. Brady Bednorz placed 1st among the 9-year-olds with Derek Rodriguez and brother Damien Rodriguez taking 2nd and 3rd respectively. In the 10-year-old division, Timothy Diaz came in 1st place, followed by Gadge Perez in 2nd, Amanda House in 3rd, and Joshua Lopez in 4th. Alexander Hernandez took 1st place in the 11-year-old division with Michel Huerta taking 2nd.

The Lions thank S-T ISD Athletics Director Adam Arroyo and his staff for once again helping to make the event a success. Thanks also to all the parents who chose to spend a beautiful Saturday morning supporting and spending time with their children.

Skidmore-Tynan Lions Welcome Beeville Transfers

The Skidmore-Tynan Lions Club met Wednesday, June 18, 2008 to consider accepting members from Beeville's "Evening Lions," whose club recently closed its doors. Lion John "Rich" Richardson of the Beeville Evening Lions attended the meeting and announced his intention to transfer into the S-T Lions. Also in attendance were Lions Ann Duggins, President; Russell Duggins, Treasurer; Buddy Duge, Membership Chair; and Keith Petrus, Secretary.

Treasurer Russ Duggins reported a balance of $415.10 in the club administrative account and $949.52 in the project account. The Lions voted to have the club pay the $25 new membership fee out of the administration account to smooth the introduction of potential members. On the recommendation of Russell Duggins, the Lions agreed to sell the club's portable marque for $200. Other topics discussed at the meeting included the annual Punt, Pass, & Kick competition, Turkey Shoot, and Pancake Supper.

The next meeting of the Skidmore-Tynan Lions Club is scheduled Wednesday, July 2, 2008.

S-T Student Advances in Lions International Peace Poster Contest

India Aguilar, a 6th grade student at Skidmore-Tynan ISD, has taken the first step to becoming an internationally recognized artist by winning a local competition sponsored by the Skidmore-Tynan Lions Club.

Aguilar's poster was among 375,000 entries submitted worldwide in the 20th Annual Lions International Peace Poster Contest. The poster was selected for its originality, artistic merit, and portrayal of the contest theme, "Peace Around the World."

The poster will advance to face tough competition at the district, multi-district, and international rounds of judging. At the international level, one grand prize winner and 23 merit award winners will be selected. The grand prize includes a cash award of $2,500, plus a trip for the winner and two family members to New York City for the awards ceremony at Lions Day with the United Nations. The 23 merit award winners will each receive a certificate and a cash award of $500.

Aguilar and fellow student artists Adam Gonzales (2nd Place) and Jessica Gallegos (3rd Place) will be honored at the December 10, S-T ISD School Board meeting.

The Lions extend special thanks to S-T ISD Junior High principal Dan Garza and teacher Debbie Benavidez who served as coordinator of the contest.

The Skidmore-Tynan Lions thank the many parents who took the time, and braved the heat, to bring their children out to the 17th Annual Punt, Pass, & Kick competition at Bobcat Stadium. S-T Lions Announce 1st Annual 4th of July Raffle Winner

Congratulations to Paul Crouch, winner of the 1st Annual Lions Club 4th of July Raffle. Mr. Crouch won a new BBQ pit loaded with enough goodies to throw a nice 4th of July party. The Skidmore-Tynan Lions Club thanks Mr. Crouch and everyone else who purchased a raffle ticket in support of Lions Club charities. Thanks also to the staff at the Chisholm Trail and Dalia's Cafe who sold the "Lions share" of the tickets.

Lions Club Donation Helps Fund "Grad Spree" Program

The Skidmore-Tynan Lions Club recently donated $100 to "Grad Spree." Grad Spree is a chemical free graduation party aimed at keeping seniors safe on graduation night. Graduation and prom night are statistically the most dangerous nights for students. Grad Spree organizers believe (and past participants agree) that seniors can have fun without alcohol and/or drugs.

Students have time to go home after graduation, change clothes and return to school where they board the bus for a trip to Corpus Christi's Fun Trackers and the YWCA for swimming and basketball. Parents are enlisted to serve as chaperones. Upon their return home, seniors receive gifts that have been donated as door prizes.

"I started helping with the first ones in Beeville when I worked there and wanted to start that tradition here," said Grad Spree sponsor Barbara Seger. "With the help of administration, staff and parents we had our first "Grad Spree in 93." The event was hailed as a success and has continued since.

Grad Spree funding comes solely from donations from the community. Donations are very much welcome as the senior class has grown from 30 to 60 since the program began. The Skidmore-Tynan Lion's Club has been a faithful donor for many years. Their continued support is much appreciated by Grad Spree organizers.

Lions Club 4th of July Raffle

The Skidmore-Tynan Lions Club is holding a 4th of July Raffle featuring a BBQ Pit loaded with lots of goodies. Tickets are $1.00 and may be purchased from your waitress or cashier at the Old Chisholm Trail Cafe. The drawing will be held July 3rd. Need not be present to win. Support Lions Club Easter Raffle

Tickets are now available for the annual Skidmore-Tynan Lions Club Easter Basket raffle. Each year, the Lions collect a variety of donated items ensuring the basket contains something for young and old. Tickets are just a $1 each. Pick up yours at the Old Chisholm Trail Cafe – just ask your waitress. The drawing will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 7th. As always, proceeds go to support Lions Club charities.

Lions Punt, Pass and Kick September 23

The S-T Lion Club will host its annual Punt, Pass and Kick competition for boys and girls ages 7 through 12 years old on September 23rd. The competition will be limited to boys and girls who attend Skidmore-Tynan ISD or are “Home Schooled” and live within the District .

As in years past, the Skidmore-Tynan ISD coaches, headed by Athletic Director Adam Arroyo, will pitch in and handle most of the set up and measuring. The competition will begin at 9:00 a.m. in Bobcat Stadium on Saturday, September 23. Participants may register on the morning of the competition.

Trophies to be presented just prior to the “kick-off” of the October 27 football game versus Refugio. Trophies will be presented to the First, Second and Third Place competitors in each age group. All children will be presented with Participation Ribbons on the day of the competition.

Lions Rummage Sale Continues

The Lions Club Rummage Sale has been extended to Sunday, August 6th. Drop by the lot west of the Post Office (behind the Variety Shop) to take advantage of some great bargains. Items in the sale include gas and electric stoves, exercise equipment, gas heaters, stereo components, bicycles, a washing machine, and lots of clothing, shoes, and miscellaneous knick-knacks!

S-T Lions Club Reschedules Rummage Sale

The Skidmore-Tynan Lions Club will hold a Rummage Sale Saturday, August 5th, in the lot west of the Post Office in Skidmore. The sale will begin at 8:00 a.m. and continue until all items are sold. In the event of rain, the sale will he held at the Skidmore Fire Station at 4th & Refugio Street. Lions Club Rummage Sale July 1st

The Skidmore-Tynan Lions Club will hold a Rummage Sale Saturday, July 1st, in the lot west of the Post Office. If you have items you would like to donate to the Sale, please contact Dee LeCount at the Chisholm Trail Cafe (287-3847) or Lions Club President David Waishes (287-3574). Any and all items of value will be accepted. Small items may be dropped off at the cafe. Larger items will be picked up by a Lions Club member.
