Stats Back Up Bobcat Pride
For those of you still feeling down after Saturday's season ending loss to Blanco, here are a few statistics Darryl Hudson gathered at the close of regular season play.
Mr. Hudson writes:
ST Bobcats are the 31-2A Champs - OUTRIGHT!! 1st time in 17 years. I would have thought this would at least get recognized in the news.
Josh Owen is the 2nd leading rusher in all 2A with 1173 yards in 107 carries. Rosenbaum from GW is 1st with 1306 in 155 per CC Caller Times last stats. Owen's average carry was 10.96 yard, which tops Rosebaum's 8.43 yards. Not to mention Owen also has 247 yards receiving on 18 receptions for an average of 13.72 yards to Rosenbaums 14 yards on 3 receptions for a 4.7 yard average. WHAT IF OWEN HAD CARRIED THE BALL MORE????
Jordan Haws is 2nd in passing in all 2A with 1043 yards in 74 completions on 132 attempts. Aparicio from Taft was 1st with 1182 yards in 93 completions on 188 attempts per CC Caller Times last stats. Haws had 56.1% completions and averaged 14.1 yards. Aparicio had 49.5% completions and averaged 12.7 yards. WHAT IF HAWS HAD THROWN MORE PASSES????
In all 2-A, ST also had Bubba Gonzales, the #7 rusher with 692 on 90 for carries (7.7 average) and Garrett Gonzales the #2 receiver with 321 on 20 receptions (16.1 average) per CC Caller Times last stats.
Team stats has ST 3rd in rushing with 2513 yards on 374 attempt to average 6.7 yards. GW was 1st with 2876 on 447 to average 6.4 yards and Banquete was 2nd with 2727 on 440 to average 6.2 yards. In passing, ST came in 2nd with Taft coming in 1st per CC Caller Times last stats. Again ST's average was on top.
Then on "D" Cory Markham according to Bay Area Sports Top 200 Defensive players, led tackles in South Texas 5A thru 1A schools with 142 Tackles 5 Sacks and 4 Fumble recoveries and John Boscamp came in 29th with 81 Tackles 1 Sack and 5 Fumble recoveries. Boscamp's 5 recoveries were the most listed for anyone in all 200 Tops defensive players. The CC Caller Times never even mentioned them.

Panthers End Bobcat Playoff Run
Ricky Gutierrez takes down a Panther running back with a flying tackle.
It turns out, as in nature, Panthers are just plain BIGGER than Bobcats. If Saturday's regional playoff game had been decided by size of character or size of heart, there might have been a different outcome. Unfortunately football is as much a game of brawn as it is brains, and at some point, sheer desire to win gives way to physical reality. That reality reared its ugly head Saturday afternoon in Seguin as the Skidmore-Tynan Bobcats fell 28-9 to their much larger Blanco opponents.
To their credit, our boys put up a valiant fight and gave Bobcat fans an exciting game to remember. Hope was kept alive well into the 4th quarter of play as the Bobcats trailed just 14-9 with 9 minutes left on the board. Two additional Panther TDs put the game firmly out of reach in the final minutes of the game. The Signal congratulates the Bobcats on a great season and an exciting finish.
Clint Isaacks vaults a Blanco defender in the final moments of the game.

The FBI and CIA Don't Want to Talk To You
AT-RISK SYSTEMS:
PRIORITY: MODERATE
I'm getting occasional messages accusing me of going to illegal Web sites. They're supposedly from the FBI. Some are also from the CIA. Wow! Don't panic, visiting the Signal won't get you 20 to life.
I hope everybody realizes that they are fraudulent. If the FBI catches you doing something illegal, I doubt it will send you an email. Nonetheless, I'm seeing AV corporations swarmed from people who are trying to comply with the spam.
This email carries the Sober worm. It disables security settings on victims' computers. It also finds email addresses on the victims' computers and mails itself to everyone. That's why there's so much of this crud out there. For more Sober information and removal instructions, visit Symantec.
Don't open spam. Don't read it. And don't open attachments. Just delete the stuff. And keep your AV software up-to-date.

The S-T Lions will hold their 4th Annual Pancake Supper with Santa, 5:00 p.m. Sunday, December 4th at the Chisholm Trail Cafe.
Your $5 donation to Lions Club charities gets you a choice of bacon or sausage, coffee or orange juice, and hot off the griddle pancakes.
And, by yet another miracle of holiday scheduling, Santa has agreed to take time from his busy schedule to pay his 4th pre-Christmas visit to Skidmore to take personal gift requests from local children. This event has been more successful each year so pick up your tickets while they last at the Chisholm Trail Cafe.

Bee Picayune Game Preview & Analysis
Bruce Harper put together a nice analysis of Saturday's upcoming Bobcat/Panther game in the Friday edition of the Bee Picayune. The article is not (yet) posted online so you'll have to pick up a copy of the Bee Pic at one of the local convenience stores. Or read about last week's game versus Ganado in the Bee Pic online Sports Page. (Note interesting photo of Jordan Haws)
So What... We've Got Bubba Gonzales!
In the run up to this weekend's regional playoff game, the San Antonio Express News profiles one of Blanco's smallest players. Read about "Nasty Nate" in the Express News story Football: Spotlight: Nathan Wilson, Blanco.

The Austin American Statesman Says...
"The key for Blanco is stopping Skidmore QB Jordan Haws, who burned Ganado last week for 200 passing yards and three total TDs. The Panthers are on a roll after a nice win over stingy Academy. Next: Lexington or Schulenburg."

Bobcats Beat Ganado - Advance in Playoffs
Celebrating another post-season victory.
The Bobcats got off to another slow start in Saturday's Area playoff game versus the Ganado Indians. Ganado was the first to put points on the board with a long drive in the 1st quarter. After a short unsuccessful drive of their own, the Bobcats finally started to turn things around with Josh Owen's interception and 18 yard run with just 50 seconds left in the 1st quarter.
Quarterback Jordan Haws hit Owen for a 41 yard reception at the top of the 2nd quarter as the Bobcats began to pick up steam. With 9:28 in the 2nd quarter, Haws' pass to Garrett Gonzales put the bocats on the board. The Cats received a lucky break when a "roughing the kicker" penalty gave them a second chance after a missed extra point kick. Josh Owen made the most of the opportunity with a successfull 2 point conversion to put the cats in the lead 8-7.
Ganado answered with another touchdown of their own but failed in their attempt at a 2 point conversion.
With 4 minutes left in the 2nd quarter, the Bobcats fumbled the ball and immediately got it back when Jeremy Johnson intercepted a Ganado pass. The Bocats continued to gather momentum as Trey Dodson made a spectacular catch on a Haws pass for a 40 yard gain. With less than a minute remaining in the 2nd quarter, Jordan Haws powered the ball into the end zone on a quarterback keeper, bringing the score to 14-13 at halftime.
The Bobcats shut out the Indians in the 2nd half of the ballgame. Josh Owen added another 6 points in the 3rd quarter with an "extra effort" run up the middle from inside the 10 yard line. Adam Aguilar's extra point kick took the score to 21-13 in favor of the Cats.
QB Jordan Haws found Garret Gonzales wide open in the end zone in the 4th quarter. With the extra point kick, the Bobcats took a commanding 28-13 lead. One of the more exciting touchdowns of the evening, Josh Owen's 4th quarter interception and subsequent 64 yard run into the end zone, was called back on a "blocking below the waist" penalty. Final score Bobcats 28 - Ganado 13.
Rob's Digital Photography was on hand to record the historic game. Check out Rob's Skidmore-Tynan Gallery for professional photos of the Ganado game and other S-T sporting events. Read more about the game in the Corpus Christi Caller-Times story 'Cats blast Indians in second half and the Victoria Advocate Second-half surge lifts Bobcats past Ganado.
Josh Owen takes the ball upfield.
Brett Howard attempts to knock down a Ganado pass.
Teammates dogpile Josh Owen after a 4th quarter interception and touchdown. Unfortunately, Mr. Owen's spectacular play was called back on a penalty.

The Bobcats will face off against the Ganado Indians Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in Victoria's Memorial Stadium. Bobcats Advance in Playoffs with 55-8 Win Over Santa Rosa
The traditional post-game school song salute.
The Bobcats made the deep South Texas trek to Santa Rosa Friday evening to face off against the Santa Rosa Warriors. S-T fans were a bit worried when Santa Rosa scored on the first play of the evening but the Bobcat dominance was absolute throughout the remainder of the game.
The Bobcats will next face the Ganado Indians as they advance in post-season play. The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday, November 19th, at Victoria High School's Memorial Stadium.
Teammates congratulate Garret Gonzales on a pass interception.
The band added an impressive drum routine to its half-time show.
The "Rah Rah" squad is going to be sore tomorrow after all those pushups!
Music CD's Distributed by Sony May Contain Malware
AT-RISK SYSTEMS:
PRIORITY: CRITICAL
UPDATE: Sony Recalls CDs Containing XCP Rootkit [FoxNews.com]
On Thursday, a Trojan that takes advantage of the Sony rootkit started appearing. A variation of the Breplibot Trojan installs the file $sys$drv.exe. The Sony rootkit hides files whose system filename begins with $sys$. Sony says it has distributed information to anti-virus companies that will allow their products to attack malicious programs using Sony's cloaking technology.
A lot has happened in the past week, so let me start by bringing everyone up to speed. Last week, a security expert discovered that copy-protection software on some Sony CDs installed a rootkit on Windows computers. A rootkit is a particularly destructive form of malware capable of cloaking itself and its actions.
Rootkits burrow deep into Windows. They hide by intercepting calls between the operating system and programs. They remove their file names from the calls. Rootkits can also tell Windows to hide files and programs. So they're difficult to detect. Users who tried to remove the rootkit manually encountered a nasty surprise. It rendered their CD drives inoperable. Users had to reformat and reinstall Windows to fix the problem.
Sony subsequently issued a patch it claims will uninstall the rootkit. Unfortunately, many people have encountered problems with the patch. It has caused lost data and computers to crash. Further, others have complained that it is difficult to get the patch. The company also said it would temporarily stop making disks with the rootkit.
Nonetheless, there is still a very real threat. If the rootkit is installed on a computer, hackers may be able to use it to do anything. They know how to exploit it.
Sony uses two different copy-protection programs on its CDs. Only one installs the rootkit, and it is included on about 20 titles. The Electronic Frontier Foundation has a list of the CDs on its site.
But don't take chances. Until we know more, I wouldn't play Sony-produced CDs on my computer. The risk is just too great. If your computer is infected, you can download a tool to disable the rootkit. It is available from Sony and from First 4 Internet, the company that developed the software.

In Search of Old St. Mary's Road
"Old St. Mary's Road" was a topic of discussion at Tuesday's Skidmore Historical Society meeting. Edwin Wallek Jr. shared a recent conversation with Jack Linney in which Mr. Linney spoke of discovering wagon tracks worn into exposed bedrock north of the Aransas River. According to Mr. Wallek's theory, "Old St. Mary's Road" ran roughly parallel to the Aransas River from the original Aransas townsite located near the Y, all the way to the town of St. Mary's located on Copano Bay north of present day Bayside. The town of St. Mary's was severely damaged by a hurricane in 1886 (roughly as the town of Skidmore was being founded) and never recovered.
Randy Wall, foreman of the Guajalote Ranch located on the north bank of the Aransas River, confirmed the road ran through ranch property. According to Mr. Wall, "On some days you can just make out the path of the old road through the treeline."
