Wayne Robert Swails, 76, passed away Tuesday April 27, 2004, in Corpus Christi, Texas.
He was born May 18, 1927, in Oklahoma City, OK, to Robert Jeremiah Swails and Lela E. Sasser Swails.
He had been a sign contractor in his own business, SWACO Signs, at Vinita, OK until moving to his retirement home near Beeville. He was married to Helen E. Schott Davis for 18 years, the mother of his four children. He served in the United States Navy during World War II then worked as a firefighter for 39 years and retired from civil service duty as a USAF fireman in 1977. Mr. Swails lived in Oklahoma, Weslaco, Corpus Christi, and Denver, Colorado.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Skidmore. He is preceded in death by his wife, Peggy (Dillard) Swails in Oklahoma after 21 years of marriage.
He is survived by his four children, John (Mona) Swails of Choctaw, OK, Jerry Swails of Corpus Christi, TX, Joyce (John) Eckstein of Independence, KY, and Janet (Terry) Yarbrough of Corpus Christi; Brother, Thomas W. (Evelyn) Swails of Yoakum, TX; Sister, Thelma I. McMullin of Edmond, OK; seven grandchildren, Richard and Rene Swails, Kelli Bradbury, Cimarron Yarbrough, Jeff Eckstein, Jennifer Eckstein, and Julie Eckstein; and two great grandchildren, Cassie and Torri.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2004 at Galloway and Sons Funeral HOme. Visitation will be held Saturday May 1, at 12:00 noon. Interment will be held in Evergreen Cemetery in Skidmore.
