Pending Construction to Change Traffic Flow at S-T ISD
Diagram of the new traffic pattern as of March 3rd.
Due to major construction projects in the spring, the front parking area of the Elementary and Junior High campuses will be “off-limits” to everyone as of Monday, March 3rd. There will be no entrance or exit capability through West Walton Street from Highway 181 (street near playground).
Beginning Monday, March 3, the following procedures will be followed for our students and families:
Bus-riding students: The busses will drop off (morning) and pick up (afternoon) the students at the back of the school in front of the cafeteria and new gym.
Car-riding students: The teachers will walk the students who are dropped off or picked up by a parent/guardian to the tennis courts located between the Junior High and Papa’s Market. Parents will use the semi-circle driveway (one-way only) located in front of the tennis courts for morning drop-off and afternoon pick up children. Please do not park and leave your vehicle unattended along this semi-circle driveway. There must be a continuous movement of traffic.
S-T ISD administrators appreciate your cooperation as they work to provide organized procedures for the safety of your children. Please keep in mind that these procedures and inconveniences are temporary.

Economic Stimulus Rebate Advice for Veterans
People on Social Security and Veterans incomes, must file a 1040A in order to receive Economic Stimulus Rebates. “Most taxpayers just need to file a 2007 tax return in order to automatically receive the stimulus payment,” said Acting IRS Commissioner Linda Stiff. “But we are especially concerned about recipients of Social Security and veterans’ benefits who may need to take special steps this year to file a tax return in order to obtain a stimulus payment. IRS.gov will help taxpayers get what they need.” For more information and a sample of how to fill out the 1040A, visit: www.irs.gov.

Bobcats Place 4th in Odem
Baseball Tournament
Pitchers Ricky Gutierrez and Zach Petrus were named All-Tourney.
The Skidmore-Tynan Bobcat baseball team battled to a 4th place finish in this weekend's 3rd Annual Odem Baseball Tournament. The Cats started strong with a first-round win over 4A Port Lavaca's Calhoun Sandcrabs, then fell to the 3A Mathis Pirates in Game 2 despite scoring 4 runs in the first inning. The Cats faced Ingleside in Game 3 on Saturday but again came up short of the win. The Signal congratulates All-Tourney awardees Ricky Gutierrez and Zach Petrus.

Ladycat Season Ends with Area
Championship Title

The Ladycats will have to settle for the Area Championship title after Tuesday's Regional Quarter Finals defeat at the hands of the Poth Pirettes. Considering the Pirettes were ranked 2nd in State, the Ladycats certainly can be proud to have given them a run for the money. Game stats to come...

Bobcat Baseball Season
Starts With a Win
Jose Lopez takes the batters box in Tuesday's first regular season baseball game vs. Yorktown. Click here for more photos of the Bobcats vs. the Wildcats.
The Bobcat baseball team started the season off right with an 8-4 win over the Yorktown Wildcats. Darby House pitched the first few innings and showed impressive control of a sharply breaking curve ball. We are uncertain at this point whether relief pitcher Zach Petrus may have set a a new school record for batters "hit by pitch" with an unofficial count of 7 over the course of the evening, or even if such statistics have been recorded in the past. At any rate, pitching ace Ricky Gutierrez successfully closed out the game, securing the Bobcat win.
The Bobcats will next compete in the annual Odem baseball tournament on Friday and Saturday, February 22nd and 23rd. Check the "Community Calendar" post below for exact game times when available.

It was touch and go right up until the last few minutes of the game when the Ladycats finally gained enough momentum for the win over the Yorktown Kitty Kats. The final score was 51-44 as the Ladycats take the Area Championship title and advance to the Regional playoffs.
"The girls got off to a great start then we ran into some trouble, but in the second half they played some great defense," said Coach Grimes. "In the last 5 minutes of the game the girls went on a 17 – run to get the win. When things got tough for us the girls executed the changes that we made and kept their cool the whole game."

Boys Basketball in Pre-Playoff
Race to Playoffs
It's a bit confusing, but as near as we can figure, the boys basketball team has entered into a playoff between Taft and Bloomington to determine who will make the postseason playoffs. The Bobcats will first face Taft, at 6:00 p.m. Friday at the Sinton gymnasium. If the Cats beat Taft, they will go on to face Bloomington, Saturday, at 6:00 p.m. in Sinton. Whoever prevails in that game will advance in the official playoffs. Good luck Bobcats!
UPDATE: Friday game time is 6:00 p.m. (not 8:00 as previously reported).

Ladycats Perfect in District Play

Tuesday's 53-46 win over George West left the Skidmore-Tynan Ladycats with a dream season 12-0 record in District.
"The girls set a team goal, at the beginning of the season, to be District Champions and go undefeated in district and this goal was accomplished," said Ladycat coach Joseph Grimes. "Going undefeated in district is tough, but these girls took care of business. There were no easy games but we always seemed to get off to great starts and then hold teams off at the end."
The Ladycats' 1st Place finish in District earned them a bye in the playoffs. Read more about the Tuesday's win and the Ladycats' season in the Bee-Picayune story: Ladycats undefeated district champs - Complete perfect run through 31-2A by sports reporter Bruce Harper.
