New Addition to Museum Collection

The item above, originally belonging to the late Justina Petrus, was donated to the Skidmore Historical Society by Robert Sugarek and Grace Petrus-Smith.

It is obviously an advertisement for "H. R. Michalke Furniture and Crockery" but can you guess its purpose? It hangs on the wall and has two sandpaper-like strips on either side of a small 2" cup. A label or metal plaque appears to be missing from the bottom portion of the item. Give up? Mrs. Smith says the little cup held matches, which were struck on the two sandpaper strips - most likely for lighting the "Oil, Gas, and Garland Stoves" advertised on the plaque.
