The Ladycats beat Odem 64 to 27 Friday, January 30, in Odem.  Rachel Mengers led the Ladycats in scoring with 20 points, followed by Courtney Vandever and Sagan Gabbert with 11 each, and Ashley Scott with 9. The Ladycats are 7-0 in District and 21-9 for the season.

Chisholm Trail Reopens Friday

Skidmore's Chisholm Trail Cafe & Grill reopens Friday under new management. Entrees featured in the new menu include steaks, shrimp, chicken, pork chops, and ever-popular fried catfish. Hours are 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday-Thursdsay, 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sundays.

The Ladycats beat Refugio 56 to 28 Tuesday, January 27th, in Skidmore. "The girls got off to an excellent start in this game and they did a great job of playing defense," said coach Joseph Grimes III. Ashley Scott led the Ladycats in scoring with 12 points, followed by Sagan Gabbert with 10, and Devon Wilder and Courtney Vandever with 7 each. The Ladycats are 6-0 in District and 20-9 for the season.

The Ladycats beat Bloomington 50 to 31 Friday, January 23rd, in Bloomington. "The girls did a very good job of getting the ball inside and pushing the ball up the floor to create good looks at the basket," said coach Joseph Grimes III. "In this game, the girls shot the ball well." Rachel Mengers led the Ladycats in scoring with 16 points, followed by Ashley Scott with 9, and Alexis Schmidt with 8. The Ladycats are 5-0 in District and 19-9 for the season.

"In this big district game, the girls did an excellent job on both ends of the court throughout the whole game," said coach Joseph Grimes III. Rachel Mengers led the Ladycats in scoring with 15 points, followed by Alexis Schmidt with 10 and Devon Wilder with 6. The Ladycats are 4-0 in District and 18-9 for the season.

Hernandez Wins Powerlifting Competition

Bobcat and Ladycat Powerlifters competed in the Port Lavaca Calhoun Meet this past weekend.  Matt Hernandez won the Super Heavyweight Division with a combined total weight of 1150 lbs.  

Other lifters and their combined totals were Chance Schirmer—900 lbs., Sal Soto—815 lbs., Adam Perez—800 lbs., Taylor Long—770 lbs., Joe Casarez—765 lbs., Donato Salinas—735 lbs., Rudy Hernandez—720 lbs., Ty White—700 lbs., Manuel Flores—690 lbs., Zach Mengers—660 lbs., J.D. White—660 lbs., Bryan Priddy—455 lbs., and Jonathan Tamez—415 lbs. Lily Hernandez lifted for the Ladycats and had a total of 505 lbs. Kristen Gonzalez also lifted and did a fine job. The Powerlifting team is coached by Gary Cunningham.  -- Submitted by S-TISD Athletics Director Adam Arroyo.

Ladycats 28 Taft 18


The Ladycats beat Taft 28 to 18 Friday, January 16th, in Skidmore. "There was some good defense played by both teams in this game," said coach Joseph Grimes III. "Both teams had trouble scoring, but getting off to a very good start in the 1st half definitely helped us in this game. The girls did a fantastic job of playing defense. Rarely to do you see a team go scoreless for two quarters in a game." Rachel Mengers led the Ladycats in scoring with 10 points, followed by Ashley Scott and Alexis Schmidt with 6 points each. The Ladycats are 3-0 in District and 17-9 for the season.

Ladycats 69 Odem 40

The Ladycats beat Odem 69 to 40 Tuesday, January 13th in Skidmore. "We didn't get off to a great start," said coach Joseph Grimes III. "We turned the ball over way too much. In the second half the girls cut the turnovers down and did a great job of hustling up and down the court in a very good win over Odem." Rachel Mengers led the Ladycats in scoring with 16 points, followed by Sagan Gabbert with 11 and Ashley Scott with 10. The Ladycats are  2-0 in District and 16-9 for the season.

S-T High School Recognized by National News Magazine

Skidmore-Tynan High School was recently named one of the nation's finest by the weekly news magazine U.S. News & World Report. Of 1,829 Texas high schools, S-THS achieved Bronze Medal status - one of just 151 to be awarded a Bronze Medal or better. Only 32 Texas schools were awarded Silver or Gold medal status.

"U.S.News & World Report—in collaboration with School Evaluation Services, a K-12 education and data research and analysis business that provides parents with education data on schoolmatters.com—analyzed academic and enrollment data from more than 21,000 public high schools to find the very best across the country. These top schools were placed into gold, silver, bronze, or honorable mention categories."

S-TISD Athletics Director Adam Arroyo reports Bobcat QB/OLB Zach Petrus was named to the Texas High School Coaches Association Academic All-State Second Team.
