Chisholm Cafe Reopens

The Chisholm Trail Cafe reopened Wednesday, July 22, under new management. An all-you-can-eat buffet is served 11:30 to 2:00 daily. Hours are 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Sunday through Saturday. The cafe is closed on Tuesdays.

Bobcats Compete at 2009 Linemen State Meet!


The Skidmore-Tynan Bobcats’ linemen competed in the state lineman challenge on Wednesday, July 8th, in Duncanville, Texas. The bobcats competed in the tire flip, sled pull, bench press, sandbag load, medicine ball toss, sled drag, farmers walk and the truck push.

Matt Hernandez pressed out 34 reps to win the overall title for the bench press. The bobcat linemen as a team took home a 3rd place trophy in class 2A.

Team members consisted of: Matt Hernandez, Manny Flores, Kevin Shumake, Jose Molina, Sal Soto, Chance Schirmer, and Donato Salinas.

2009-2010 Skidmore-Tynan ISD Elementary Registration Schedule

All students, both new to S-T ISD AND returning S-T ISD elementary students, are required to register for the 2009-2010 school year. Student registration for the new school year allows our school to have an accurate student enrollment number and the staff members needed when the new school year starts.

Registration packets can be picked up at the elementary office beginning Monday, July 27, from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and returned to the school office for their formal registration, according to the schedule below. Elementary students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian when the completed registration packet, with parent signatures, is brought to the school office.

Monday, August 03
8:00 a.m.-12:00 noon – New* Student registration
1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. – Kinder and 1st Grade

Tuesday, August 04
8:00 a.m.-12:00 noon – 2nd Grade
1:00p.m.-4:00 p.m. – 3rd Grade

Wednesday, August 05
8:00 a.m.-12:00 noon – 4th Grade
1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. 5th Grade

Parents with children in more than one grade level can register all children on the same day.

*ALL NEW students registering must provide the district with the following information:

1. Original Birth Certificate
2. Immunization Record - Current
3. Original of Student’s Social Security Card
4. Legal guardianship papers if child does not reside with parent(s)
5. Proof of Residency: electric bill, phone bill
6. End of Year Report Card from Previous School (if applicable)

Adolph Stautzenberger 1929-2009

Adolph Phillip Stautzenberger of Skidmore died on Tuesday, June 30, at age 80.

He was born June 29, 1929, in Tynan to Alvin A. & Ida Rudeloff Stautzenberger. He married Helen Harrison on June 18, 1950, and was a member of Peace United Church of Christ. He was a retired farmer.

Mr. Stautzenberger was preceded in death by his wife and one son, Scott Stautzenberger. Survivors include two sons, Ernest S. Stautzenberger of Beeville and Rocky (Joan) Stautzenberger of Skidmore; four grandsons, Lyndon, Marshall, Cody and Blake Stautzenberger; and his dear friend and companion, Sue Leach.

Services were held at Galloway & Sons chapel Friday morning with interment following at Skidmore's Evergreen Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dennis DeWitt, Michael Page, Ron Stautzenberger, Phillip Stautzenberger, Cody Stautzenberger and Blake Stautzenberger.

Cougar Days are Coming

CBC orientation set for incoming freshmen.

Coastal Bend College hosts free, one-day freshman orientations at the following dates and locations:

Kingsville: Tuesday, July 21 at 8:30 a.m.
Beeville: Thursday, July 23 at 8:30 a.m.
Alice: Thursday, July 30 at 8:30 a.m.
Pleasanton: Tuesday, Aug. 4 at 8:30 a.m.

Incoming students will receive information, lunch and a t-shirt, and enter a drawing to win prizes. One guest per student is welcomed. Academic advisors will be available to assist students in registering for fall classes.

To be eligible to register during Cougar Days, a completed application for admissions, high school and college transcripts and a FAFSA report must be on file at the admissions office. Students must have THEA or ACCUPLACER test scores available or show proof of exemption. Placement testing must be completed before Cougar Days for a student to register for classes. For available testing dates and times, contact the testing center help desk at (361)354-2266.

The test fee is $29 which must be paid in advance. A receipt is needed to make a reservation for the test. Test takers are required to arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of the test with a current photo identification card and social security card.
