S-T Athletes to be Honored at Athletic Banquet

The Skidmore-Tynan Athletic Booster Club will host its annual athletic banquet Monday, May 5th, at 6:00 p.m. in the S-T ISD cafeteria. Meals will be provided for the athletes. Friends and family members may purchase additional meals for $7 the night of the event. The price of the meal includes a souvenir cup. Anthony’s Barbecue will cater the event.

Annual Rabies Clinic Benefits
Fire Department

The Skidmore Fire Department will host its annual Rabies Clinic Saturday, April 26th. Bring your pet to the Skidmore Fire Station at 4th & Refugio Street Saturday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Rabies Shots are $5:00. Combo Shots are $10.00. The event benefits the Skidmore Fire Department with special thanks to the folks at South Texas Veterinary Clinic.

Doubles Team to Compete in Regional Tourney

The Skidmore-Tynan Varsity Tennis team will be represented by Chris Patrova and Zach Petrus Wednesday and Thursday, April 23-24, at the Regional Tournament in San Marcos. The pair took 1st Place in Boys Doubles at the District Tournament held in Refugio April 7-8.

Son of S-T Graduate Receives
Texas Round-Up "Fit Kid" Award

Kolton Allen, son of 1983 Skidmore-Tynan graduate Kevin Allen has been named "Fit Kid" by governor Rick Perry. Kolton and other fitness award recipients will travel to Austin to participate in the 5th annual Texas Round-Up 10K and 5K Race and Fitness Festival on April 26. Read more at: Gov. Bobcat and Ladycat Golfers Advance to Regionals

Good luck to the S-T ISD Boys golf team who will compete April 21-22 in the Regional golf tournament in San Marcos, Texas. The team is composed of Chris Patrova, Zachary Petrus, Joseph Chavarria, C.J. Schindler, and Robert Brown. The Ladycat golf team placed 3rd in the District Meet and will be represented by top medalists Kristina Cavazos and Courtney Vandever at the Regional tournament.

ICC Fundraiser Saturday

The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church is holding a Barbecue Brisket Plate sale Saturday, April 19, at 11:00 a.m. in the lot across from the Junior High school on Highway 181. The brisket sale will be preceded by a Rummage Sale beginning at 8:00 a.m. Saturday. BBQ Plates are $7.00 and include brisket, sausage, rice, beans, and potato salad. Proceeds will benefit the parish insurance fund.

S-T ISD Pre-Kinder and Kindergarten Registration

Pre-Kinder and Kindergarten Registration for the 2008-2009 Skidmore-Tynan Elementary school year begins April 24, 2008, at the Elementary Office from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The following guidelines are followed for those who are registering for Pre-Kinder:
1. Students who are 4 years of age on or before September 1, 2008.
2. Students who are unable to speak or comprehend the English language by a home language survey, informal oral inventory, or any adaptations of oral proficiency instruments approved by the commissioner of education.
3. Students whose family income is at or below subsistence, as determined by applying the formula used to qualify for free or reduced-priced lunches under the National School Lunch Program.

The following guidelines are followed for those registering for Kindergarten:
1. Children must be 5 years of age on or before September 1, 2008.

ALL students registering must provide the district with the following information:
1. Original Birth Certificate
2. Immunization Record-Current
3. Original of Student’s Social Security Card
4. Proof of Income in registering for Pre-Kinder
5. Legal guardianship papers if child does not reside with parent(s).

Please Note: Compulsory Attendance Law: Under 25.085 (c), compulsory attendance also applies to students below the age for compulsory attendance during any period that the student is voluntarily enrolled in pre-kindergarten or kindergarten. Additionally, the Texas Education Code 25.092 states, “…a student may not be given credit for a class/program of instruction unless the student is in attendance for at least 90 percent of the days the program of instruction is offered.”
