Ladycats Keep on Winning

The Ladycats continue their winning ways with Tuesday's defeat of the Nixon Smiley Lady Mustangs. "The girls did a great job in a very competitive game," said coach Joseph Grimes. "They set the tone early and made Nixon play catch up the whole game. On the offensive end they attacked the basket well and on the defensive end they allowed very few second chances by blocking out well and getting rebounds."

The Ladycats' next game will be Tuesday December 4, 2007 in Ingleside.

Brahmas End Bobcat Playoff Run

Clint Isaacks threads his way though the Brahma defense.

It was a great season, but as they say, "all good things must come to an end." The Skidmore-Tynan Bobcat post-season ended with Friday's 41-7 loss to the Stockdale Brahmas.

The Cats held the Brahmas to 14 points in the 1st half of the ball game and it looked like they were about to mount a comeback when QB Darby House suffered an injury to his throwing hand. Limited to a run-only offensive attack, the Bobcats were overpowered in the second half of the game by Stockdale's big and fast defense. That, and a stellar performance by Stockdale QB Michael Soto, proved to be the Bobcats' downfall. The Caller-Times recaps the loss: Soto stuns Skidmore-Tynan.

The Bobcats end the season as Bi-District champs, with a 9-3 record, and are to be congratulated for providing Bobcat fans with another exciting year of High School football.

Parents Thankful for Child's Miraculous Recovery

Jace at his first Houston Astros baseball game in July, and Jace today.

Back in February, Signal readers learned of the plight of little Jace Sandoval who was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer. Jace is the son of former KFTX "Real Country" remote events coordinator "Big Josh" Sandoval. We asked readers to send donations to Jace's medical fund and to pray for his rapid recovery. We are happy to share this update, sent via email, by Joshua Sandoval.
Hello Everyone,

We just received some news that made us Drop To Our Knees in Praise and Weep with Happiness!

Jamie has been hounding me to ask the Dr. EVERYDAY, how one knows when a patient is able to be a candidate for "Remission"???? So this morning, when he came by to do the "Omaya Reservoir" procedure on Jace, I asked him. "Dr., when is it that you would know that Jace is a candidate for Remission????" he proceeds to tell me that "Remission is a Term he typically uses for Leukemia and Lymphoma Patients"....

So, I nod my head yes and say "I understand" he then mentions... Jace's Case is different so I can't say that he is in Remission cause Remission means "subsiding of the symptoms of a disease"... He proceeds to tell me if I had to call it something, I would refer to it as "JACE HAS NO EVIDENCE OF ILLNESS!!!"

His past 3 MRI's show no change, the past 6 Tests on his "CSF - Central Spinal Fluid" have come back showing no Malignant Cells, and the Pathologist Report from Monday (10-22) on his CSF has come back Negative!

Did we hear correctly???????? "NO EVIDENCE OF ILLNESS?!??!?!?!?!" That's the words straight out of the Dr.'s mouth.......

He also mentioned that the hardest thing for Dr's to do is figure out "how many treatments is "enough" and "when to stop"" Well in Jace's Pilot study, all information is taken from patients going 10 rounds of chemo, so we will continue on with 3 more treatments. Well, that is the plan right now unless something changes and Dr. decides to do less. But for now we continue through 3 more rounds of chemo which will bring us to April, Jace's 3rd Birthday!

Thanks again to everyone for their continued Prayers and Support!!! It means more than you will ever know! We Love You All!!!

Praise God, Praise God, Praise God!!!!!!!!!

Donations to the Jace Michael Sandoval Medical Fund may be deposited at any Bank of America location.

Two Big Questions

Two questions we are frequently hearing as we enter the football post-season playoffs are, "Who will we play next if we beat Hebbronville," and, "Will we have to play Refugio again?" The answer to the first question is the winner of Stockdale vs. SA Cole. As for the second question, we certainly hope to play Refugio again because it will mean both teams have made it to the State Quarter-Finals (although we won't be too upset if they get knocked out in an earlier round)!

Here's what the brackets look like up up to the Quarter Finals:

S-T ISD Honors "Those Who Serve"

D'Anne Wilder addresses the assembled students, faculty, and administrators. Click here for S-T ISD Veterans Ceremony photos at Shutterfly.com

On the Eleventh day of the eleventh month on the eleventh hour, we stand back and say thank you to those who have fought for and defended our country. As Skidmore tradition, S-T ISD hosted its annual Veterans’ Day celebration at 9:00 a.m., Friday, November 9th. The students were asked to honor any and all family members that have served in one of our military branches. There were 45 Skidmore-Tynan community Veterans honored. The Ceremony began with each branch of the service represented by their individual flag and song.

As the Veterans entered the gymnasium, they received a standing ovation from all S-T students, faculty and staff. They were given a pin and recognized by their family member who honored them. The ceremony ended with the playing of Taps by the Skidmore-Tynan Bobcat band.

After the ceremony, the Veterans and their S-T student were invited to have refreshments and catch up with other veterans in the cafeteria.

Each campus participated and all should be commended on a job well done. We appreciate our Veterans and their commitment that was made to help keep America free. -- Submitted by Jennifer Chambers

Postmaster Domingo Rodriguez organized the event which featured a flag-raising, recitation of the pledge of allegiance, prayer by reverend Jason Calvert, and the presentation of appreciation pins by VFW Post 9170 chaplain John Snyder.

At 9:00 a.m., veterans converged on the S-T ISD Events Center gymnasium for the annual ceremony honoring "Those Who Serve." Superintendent, Dr. Brett Belmarez, hosted the event which began with the presentation of colors by FFA students, a special salute to each branch of the armed forces, and the presentation of appreciation pins by students descended from the assembled veterans. The ceremony concluded with a stirring rendition of taps by student trumpeters Beth Gonzales and Trevor Dragon and reception in the S-T ISD cafeteria.

S-T High School Championship Photos Preserved for Posterity

Bi-District basketball Champs with a win-loss record of 25-6. Back Row: Gerald Holubec, Pablo Vela, Ysmael ViaFranco, Walter Jimenez, Felix Fojtik, and Garland Beyer. Front Row: David Hurst, Rudy Salinas, Dickie Hardin, Arturo Lara, and Sam Stewart. Not pictured: Henry Salinas and coach Wayne Dubose.

Alumni visiting Skidmore-Tynan High School often ask "What happened to the photos that used to line the hallways?" I turns out they are not quite gone and certainly not forgotten.

The photos were salvaged from the old gymnasium and placed on display at Saturday's All-School Reunion at the Tynan Recreation Hall. It appears the photos may have been removed from the high school hallways by former administrators during routine painting & maintenance and were simply never replaced.

Whatever the reason for their disappearance, we are certainly happy the photos are being preserved in recognition of the accomplishments of Skidmore-Tynan alumni. Special thanks to S-T ISD alumnus Richard Bryan of Kenedy who assisted in the duplicate photography of the photos.

"All the pressure resulted into 17 steals plus numerous turnovers by Karnes City." The Ladycats next game will take place on November 13 in Orange Grove starting at 5:00pm. Come on out and support our girls as they begin another great season.

S-T Victorious in Second "Battle of the Bobcats"

Celebrating another "Bobcat" win.

After a stinging loss to the Refugio Bobcats, the Skidmore-Tynan Bobcats bounced back Friday, November 2, to defeat the Bloomington Bobcats 20-0. The win, along with George West's narrow 22-20 victory over Three Rivers, places us in the running for 3rd place, with a shot at the District playoffs. In a replay of last season, it will all come down to next week's game against the Taft Greyhounds.

Cory Markham scores a touchdown on a Darby House pass. Can you spot the penalty? It's pretty subtle. At the end, Cory questions the ref and decides it's not worth arguing over.

Try counting the number of Bloomington Bobcats it takes to bring down Noel Solis. It looks like 12 or 13 of the 11 Bloomington players were in on the tackle.

S-T ISD Fall Festival Tradition Going Strong

Costumed kiddos cavort at annual carnival.

Each year, Skidmore-Tynan parents and children arrive in droves to enjoy the carnival atmosphere of the S-T ISD Elementary and High School Fall Festival. Old-timers know it as the "Halloween Carnival," but whatever the name, the annual celebration provides lots of fun for young and old alike.

In addition to old favorites like the cake walk, fish tank, bingo, and elementary toy walk, this year's festival included a dunking booth sponsored by the Athletics Booster Club. Pictured are Booster Club members Catherine Davis, Rodona Henderson, "dunkee" Jonathan Murphy, and Rosie & Homer Solis. Visit Shutterfly.com for more Fall Festival photos.
