Pick up the latest issue of the
Skidmore Signal at
Papa's Market,
Dalia's Cafe, or the
Lucky Horseshoe. Yes, the list of businesses from which the
Signal may be purchased has declined greatly as our little town suffers its own version of an economic recession. When we first began publication, Skidmore supported 3 convenience stores (now down to 1), 3 taverns (now down to 1), and 4 cafe/restaurants (now down to 2). With fewer and fewer advertisers, it has become necessary to pass more of the cost of publication on to the readers – hence this issue's increase in cost to 75 cents.
Our goal at the
Signal has always been to provide a forum for local writers and to cast a spotlight on the accomplishments of the people – especially the youth – of our community. We are proud of the academic and athletic accomplishments at S-T ISD and believe that students deserve the special recognition that a local newspaper provides (however infrequently published).
We thank our loyal readers and the local businesses that continue to support the
Signal. Our advertisers aren't just promoting their businesses – they are promoting our community and our children.
