CC Ballet to Perform "Sleeping Beauty" at A.C. Jones High School

Corpus Christi Ballet is pleased to present the classic ballet “Sleeping Beauty” in the A. C. Jones High School Auditorium Friday, April 15 at 7:00 p.m. The presentation is a gift to the community by the Joe Barnhart Foundation. This famous fairy tale will come alive with a cast of more than 100 dancers and actors in elaborate costumes. The dances create an atmosphere of fairy tale magic that brings the audience into a mystical world where spells are cast and fairy tale characters dance to Tchaikovsky’s beautiful music, creating a magical evening you won’t want to miss. Dancing the roles of Princess Aurora and her Prince are exciting principal dancers Alexandra Trevino and renowned Russian dancer, Konstantin Kolotov.

The wicked Fairy Carabosse, dramatically portrayed by the gifted April Michels, challenges the all-powerful Lilac Fairy, performed by the talented Shannon Cruz. The story unfolds when the Lilac fairy comes to the aide of a handsome prince and good finally triumphs over evil. A great celebration takes place in the palace and all are invited to witness the wedding of Princess Aurora and her Prince. Fairy tale characters like Puss in Boots, the White Cat, a pair of Bluebirds and Red Riding Hood and the Wolf join in the festivities.

“The Sleeping Beauty ballet is the most beloved of all the classical ballets. The artistry and entertainment value is as appreciated today as it was a hundred years ago”, stated Corpus Christi Ballet board president, Brad Condit. Corpus Christi Ballet is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing outstanding professional ballet productions for the South Texas community. Corpus Christi Ballet has educated, entertained and enthralled its audiences with performances that have made South Texas culturally rich.

Admission is $8 at the door for all adults. Students through high school age will be admitted free. Proceeds from door sales will help the Beeville Concert Association, which has made the arrangements for the performance, to bring future events to Beeville. However, the program is not included on the BCA concert season tickets.
