Skidmore-Tynan ISD urges voters to vote "Yes" in the December 5th, 2008 Tax Ratification Election. The proposed 16¢ reduction in the debt service tax rate in 2008 combined with a 6¢ increase in the maintenance and operations tax rate will result in an overall 10¢ rate reduction. Voting “Yes” on the tax ratification election equals saying “Yes” to a 10¢ reduction in your tax rate. Taxes for seniors and those with disability exemptions are not affected by the new rate because their tax rate is frozen. If the Tax Ratification Election fails, the District will lose an estimated 280,000 in state matching funds and be forced to cut budgets, programs, personnel and/or dip into emergency reserves by an estimated $355,000.
